30 years of the Club
PVEC has its origins back in 1986 with the founding of its predecessor, The Police Vehicle Collectors’ Club. This was a slightly confusing title at the time as the Club was for collectors of models; not vehicles as such. No one at that time could have anticipated that, within a few years, the Club’s successor would indeed cater for the interests of dozens of collectors of the full-size article, with a few individual members even achieving fleets numbered in double figures.
The Club has evolved to embrace the diversity, history and preservation of police vehicles across the UK and abroad. Today, PVEC is the only organisation to own not one, but six original classic British police cars.
Leading experts
The preservation of vehicles is just one aspect of the PVEC’s ever widening appeal. The Club remains the leading forum for those interested in model police vehicles, and has been massively influential in the increase in volume, variety and accuracy in the model manufacturers’ marketplace. The modellers’ need for accurate information, especially photographic evidence, led to the collection of pictures and data. For some, the creation of picture and information archives became an end in itself, and within the Club are now to be found the leading experts in police vehicle history.
What PVEC does
Whatever the interest; particular eras, geographical areas, specific makes or types of vehicle, PVEC has a member, usually more than one, who is a recognised authority. Not forgotten are motorcycles, watercraft and aircraft. Even horses and bicycles have their devotees.
PVEC has an international dimension with numerous overseas members, ensuring a supply of news and articles for our Club magazine – Sidestripe – which has sections dedicated to every aspect of the Club’s spheres of interest.
Every year PVEC exhibits at numerous police, emergency service and motoring events, with models to memorabilia and a growing inventory of fabulous preserved vehicles of all ages and origins.
Membership benefits
PVEC is always looking for new members who can contribute to the aims of the Club. Membership benefits include a bi-monthly electronic magazine, access to historical archives, exclusive offers on police models, organised visits to police services and much more.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. We hope that if you are at all enthused by what you see, you will consider joining our friendly Club, and delve into the fascinating and little-known world of police vehicles.
